Airswimming tells the tale of Persephone Baker’s and Dora Kitson’s incarceration in St. Dymphna’s Hospital for the Criminally Insane. United by circumstance, forgotten and abandoned by their families, the women form a bond and adopt alter-egos to escape the mundanity of life. With its homage to Doris Day, this dark comedy is finely balanced by the pathos of two women who have dared to birth illegitimate children. Airswimming is a story of true friendship and a testament to the strength and resilience of women everywhere.
Deliberately performed in International Women’s Week, 2019, Airswimming was staged and created by an all female team.
